Terms of use

These terms apply when you use Certify Academy, the free learning site at academy.certify.one and academy.certify.com.br. Please read them before you create an account. By ticking the box when you sign up, you agree to them.

Who we are

Certify Academy is run by Certify Skills Limited ("Certify", "we", "us"), a company registered in England and Wales, company number 11369436, registered office 7 Bell Yard, London, WC2A 2JR. You can reach us at credential@certify.one.

How we handle your personal data is explained in our privacy notice, which is separate from these terms.

The Academy

The Academy offers free, self paced courses about digital credentials. Passing a module's quiz earns you that module's digital badge, and finishing every module and the final project earns you the pathway certificate. Badges and certificates ("credentials") are issued on the Certify platform, whose own terms also apply to your credentials once issued.

The courses are free. We may add, change or withdraw courses, and change how the Academy works, at any time. If we close a course, credentials you have already earned from it are not affected.

Your account

You need an account to take a course. To have one:

• you must be at least 16 years old
• you must give your real name, because it is printed on your credentials
• the email address must be yours, and you must keep access to it private, since it is how you sign in

One account per person. You are responsible for what happens under your account.

Honest work

Credentials are only worth something if the person holding them did the work. So:

• your quiz answers must be your own
• anything you write or upload for a practical task or the final project must be your own work, or clearly credit where it came from
• you must not share quiz answers, use someone else's account, or ask anyone to take a course for you
• you must not try to get round the order of the course, the quizzes or any other part of the site

Revoking a credential

We can revoke a credential issued through the Academy if:

• it was earned in breach of the "Honest work" section above
• it was issued by mistake, for example to the wrong person or before the requirements were met
• the name on it is not your real name
• there is another good reason, such as a legal requirement

Before we revoke a credential we will email you to explain why and, unless the law or the circumstances prevent it, give you at least 14 days to reply. If you think we have got it wrong, tell us and we will look at it again. A revoked credential shows as revoked to anyone who checks it.

We will never revoke a credential simply because you have stopped using the Academy or deleted your account.

What you submit

You keep ownership of anything you write or upload. You give us permission to store it, to review it so that we can check the course requirements were met and to run the Academy, and to keep it for as long as your account exists. We will not publish it or use it in our marketing without asking you first.

Do not upload anything you do not have the right to share, anything unlawful, or anyone else's personal data beyond what the task needs.

Our content

The course materials, including lessons, diagrams, quizzes and templates, belong to Certify or the people who licensed them to us. You may use them for your own learning, and use the templates in your own work. You may not copy, republish or sell the courses, or use them to train or build a competing course or service.

Using the site fairly

Do not interfere with the site, try to access anything that is not yours, use automated tools to collect its content, or use it to send spam or anything harmful.

Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time from your account page. Deleting it does not affect credentials you have earned.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. Unless it would be unlawful or unsafe, we will tell you why first. Accounts that are not used are deleted after a period of inactivity, as the privacy notice explains, with an email warning beforehand.

What we promise, and what we do not

We work hard to keep the Academy accurate and available, but it is provided free and as it is. We do not promise that it will always be available or free of errors.

A credential from the Academy shows that you completed a Certify course. It is not a qualification regulated by any government or awarding body, it does not carry continuing professional development (CPD) recognition unless a course says so, and we cannot promise how an employer or anyone else will value it.

Our liability to you

Nothing in these terms limits our liability where the law does not allow it to be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud. Nothing in them takes away your rights as a consumer.

Otherwise, because the Academy is free, we are not liable for loss of income, business or opportunity, or for any loss that was not reasonably foreseeable when you started using it.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will update this page, and ask you to accept the new version the next time you sign in. If you do not want to accept it, you can delete your account.

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere in the United Kingdom, or in another country, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law where you live and can bring a claim in your local courts.
